Umbro 1997-99 England Away Shirt Owen #20 Material: Polyester Color: Red Great vintage condition Size: kids, 10/11 year Made in England (obviously)
This one is special — my very first football jersey ever. Back in 1998 in the Czech Republic, it was incredibly rare to get this shirt, and having it printed was nearly impossible. After I got it from my dad, we took it to the Umbro store in Prague to have the print done.
The funny thing is that even Umbro themselves didn’t have the license for England’s official font at that time — so the embellishment is great quality, just in the wrong font. For comparison, you can see the correct one on Natalie’s jersey, which I acquired years later.
Writing this down now makes me realize how nostalgic this shirt makes me feel — it brings me right back to my childhood and my first football memories: the 1998 World Cup in France. That magnificent Michael Owen solo goal against Argentina… (and yes, Netflix kids, that’s how you should remember the game — not because of “Beckham” documentary, s01e01: “The Kick”).
Anyway — it’s decided! The only one I’m selling is the kids’ size that Natalie is wearing in the photos. At least you’ll get the correct embellishment.
